Less manual handling
Prepare an accessible pile. The crane loads it into the truck, avoiding repeated wheelbarrow trips and shovelling into a skip. Excavation and hand loading are not included.

A practical alternative to skips
For a large, accessible pile of accepted soil or rubble, grab hire can be an easier, cheaper and more convenient alternative to skips. The grab arm loads the material and the truck takes it away in one agreed visit.

The truck arrives, loads and leaves. You do not need to keep a skip occupying the driveway while waiting for a later collection.
Full-load grab hire can work out cheaper than multiple skips for bulk soil or rubble. Compare like-for-like material, capacity, transport and VAT—not just a headline hire price.
| Your priority | Grab hire | Skip hire |
|---|---|---|
| Loading | Grab arm loads a prepared, reachable pile. | You or your contractor fill the skip. |
| Timing | Material should be ready for the agreed collection. | Useful when waste accumulates over several days. |
| Quantity | Full-load pricing, up to 16 tonnes within safe limits; no half-load rate. | A range of sizes may suit smaller quantities. |
| Material | Accepted inert soil, stone, bricks, concrete and rubble. | Other waste streams may be accepted under the provider’s terms. |
| Access | Safe standing space and crane access to the pile are essential. | A suitable delivery position and space to leave the skip are needed. |
| Materials for the next stage | Combine aggregates and collection when capacity and access allow. | Arrange aggregate supply separately unless included by your provider. |
No. Price depends on the postcode, material, quantity, access and disposal arrangements. A small load or mixed waste may be better suited to a skip. We will help you compare the complete job before you book; we do not promise a fixed saving or a set number of skips replaced.
Do not assume that a grab collection needs no permissions. Tell us if the truck would work from a road, pavement or restricted parking area so any permissions and traffic-management requirements can be checked before attendance.
For suitable projects, coordinate aggregate delivery and soil collection on the same agreed visit. Aggregate orders start at 5 tonnes. There is no additional aggregate transport charge when it fits that visit; materials, collection and any extra journeys are charged separately.
